ABOUT PINYON CREST
Pinyon Crest is a small, unique community located up Pines to Palms Scenic Byway/Highway 74 from Palm Desert about 10 miles from Santa Rosa and San Jacinto Mountains National Monument Visitor Center.
Pinyon Crest is at about 4000 foot elevation so the temperatures remain about 10-20 degrees cooler than the desert floor, and fantastic views for each of the less than 100 residences.
The community was established in the 1950's of which some of the original homes still exist, and a variety of celebrities over the years had homes here as a retreat from heat and paparazzi to include: Frank Sinatra, Denny Miller, Tom Selleck, Richard Dreyfuss, and Katherine Hepburn.
Seated next to Pinyon Crest is the 640 protected acres of the Shumway Ranch established in 1938 which was one of the last stock-raising homestead granted in California.
There is an obvious desire to keep Pinyon Crest a treasure for those who make it home, respecting the nature and wildlife, honoring the fauna and flora, and admiring the beauty all that provides us every day.

You will find the Pinyon Crest community to function more like a family, despite being spread out due to the lot sizes of the homes! It is customary to stop and chat along the road if you should pass a car on the road, and the mailbox is always a place to catch up, see announcements and stay in touch.
